My experiences to-date of planning my wedding

Author: Bride-to-be from Cookstown, Co Tyrone

I’m still on a high from getting engaged to the man of my dreams....and although I am not getting married until late 2012 I’m already getting things organised. I’ve always been described as being a bit of a ‘Monica’ from friends, but I think it’s only right to work ahead of the game – getting married of course is one of, if not the most important day of your life.

I suppose my experience so far as been all about researching and of course making lists. Every wedding magazine on sale has been purchased, pages have been ripped out and things highlighted.  The best thing of all I have got so far is a wedding planner book.  I would absolutely recommend this to any bride getting ready for the big day.  Not one item is missed in this wedding planner, it covers everything from what questions to ask, when deciding on the wedding venue, to having special pockets to keep receipts in.

My fiancé and I, have to date, met with our wedding venue coordinator in the Glenavon Hotel, he couldn’t have been more helpful – James your a star!! – the venue is the only thing booked so far, apart from the Church, but they are the most important obviously. I have also made a list of the main things like wedding photographers/ wedding video/ wedding flowers/ wedding dress etc.

It’s important I chat to other people who can recommend who to book for the wedding, but also trying to get value for money.  So far I must have visited 100 websites and have targeted about 3 different people to use for each category.... I wonder is this too much, or too little?

Decisions I’ve made already regarding saving money include – making my own wedding invites and not having chair covers or wedding favours – everyone is different I suppose. My next target is to start booking wedding photographers to visit.

I can’t wait to start trying on wedding dresses – need to start exercising first.

Bookourwedding.com has the best tips and ideas.  Thanks!! Xo
