Recommendations and tips for your Honeymoon in Mexico

by Editor@BookOurWedding 19. January 2011 06:28

Are you considering Mexico as a honeymoon destination?  Well if so, we would like to recommend the Dreams Riveria Cancun Resort & Spa.The beach resort is situated 18km from Cancun airport and is within walking distance to Puerto Morelos.

The all inclusive option at the resort features 9 restaurants which include Mexican, Asian, French, Italian and Seafood Restaurants with unlimited gourmet dining and premium brand beverages. The nine internationally specialized restaurants serve luscious fare in stunning outdoor and indoor settings and no reservations, wristbands or coupons are required.

Cocktails we recommend are the Pina Colada and the Miama Vice.  You might be surprised to find they don’t actually have a cocktail list for you to browse, however you will not be disappointed as the reason for this is because there are far too many to choose from.  You can choose to drink you cocktails while lazing on your sun lounger (waiter service is available) or at any of the bars.  We sipped on ours while relaxing in the affinity pool which has its own bar and bar stools within the water.

There are many excursions and day trips that you can organize during your stay in Mexico.  Like any holiday destination it is advisable to book these through reputable tour companies.  If you are being offered these trips at much lower prices, then chances are it may be too good to be true, so be careful.

We visited Chichen Itza, Chichen Itza which means “at the mouth of the well of Itza “, is the 2nd most visited archeological site of Mexico today.

The Dreams Riveria Resort provides a free shuttle bus into Cancun on a Thursday afternoon for any shoppers who want to browse the souvenir shops.  Always remember to haggle and never accept the first price you have been quoted at the stalls as the sales men quickly drop their prices when they think they are going to lose out on the sale.  The Dream Riveria resort hosts Mexican and Caribbean evenings and each night there is live entertainment within the complex.

The resort has a Gym and a Spa which you can also avail off.  The gym is included within the all inclusive package and normally you be notified on a daily basis of any offers available at the spa.  We recommend the Swedish massage which is an all over body massage with medium pressure.  We also recommend you make use of the Sauna, Steam Room and the outdoor Jacuzzis.  Within the complex there is a photo studio where you can go along and book a photo session free of charge.  The photographer will take you to the beach, the spa and other areas with a no obligation to purchase offer.  However we are sure you will be blown away with some of these photos and purchase copies to take home as a memorabilia of your fantastic stay at the Dreams Riveria hotel.

On your trip to Mexico you will probably be approached by sales people involved in time-sharing.  If you would prefer to avoid these guys be aware of some of their sales phrases ‘Come to our hotel and we will give you freebies and discounts’, ‘We have a special breakfast we would like to invite you to which will involve a presentation’.  These are the types of phrases that are used to entice people to come along.

The currency in Mexico is Pesos or you can use USD, it is a good idea to notify your bank beforehand if you plan to use your credit or debits cards while away.  Also when calculating your spending money for Mexico, remember that tipping is almost second nature.   You will also be required to pay $55 USD departure tax on leaving the country.

The one and only thing that I was disappointed with on our trip to the Dreams Riveria was that out of the 9 Restaurants on our resort not one offered Chicken Fajitas on their menu, my favorite dish of all time.  Also a little note before I finish, be prepared to put on at least half a stone of weight while on your honeymoon especially if you go for an all inclusive package.

Remember your honeymoon is  a once in a lifetime opportunity, so make sure to make the most of your time away regardless of which location you choose.

We would like to wish you all a safe trip.  We extend our deepest sympathy to the Harte and the McAreavey family following the recent death of Michaela McAreavey while on honeymoon in Mauritius.
