Celebrate your wedding reception at one of the great Georgian country estates in the North West of Ireland

by Editor@BookOurWedding 23. August 2010 09:46

We have found one of Ireland’s best kept secrets, Drenagh Estate.  Drenagh is a beautiful neo-classical country house in the North West of Ireland, designed by Sir Charles Lanyon, surrounded by a walled parkland estate of a thousand acres and seventy acres of gardens.  With many miles of walks and avenues, a conifer arboretum and Ireland's largest privately owned walled garden, Drenagh is undoubtedly a spectacular location for your wedding reception.

  Drenagh Estate, Limavady

The Drenagh Estate which is located in Limavady has been in the McCausland family for 11 generations and during this time there have been two major houses.  The first house, Fruithill, built in the late 17th century, was replaced by Drenagh in 1836.  Drenagh was Lanyon's first country house commission and without doubt his most charming creation.  The current owners, Conolly and Sheelagh McCausland, live at Drenagh with their 4 daughters and have done tremendous work in restoring Drenagh to its previous grandeur.

The gardens at Drenagh offer a perfect setting for Wedding photography, with paths winding through bluebell covered Beech woods, the fabulous 4 acre walled garden, the Moon Garden, created in the mid 20th Century and the Italian Garden overlooked by a Belvedere in the style of the great garden at the Villa d'Este.

Drenagh can cater for weddings of any size in the great Pavilion marquee in the Walled Garden.   The Moon Garden can be used for Civil Ceremonies or decorated with candles and lanterns creating the perfect evening setting for pre reception drinks.  Drenagh work with two of Ireland's most experienced marquee hire companies to provide the greatest possible range of alternatives from a traditional lined Big Top to a Grand Pavilion in the style of the great Indian Raj.  Their select list of caterers will ensure you provide your guests with wedding menus tailored to your individual needs, whether that be Grandma's home cooking or Michelin star quality presentation.

Accommodation of the highest standard is available for groups from 8 to 16 people with your own private chef, use of the indoor pool, home cinema room and exclusive use of the House and Gardens.  Drenagh are more than happy to arrange a barbeque on the day after the wedding for your guests as a chance to unwind and chat about the previous day's events.  Drenagh can also arrange a variety of different activities on site for your guests - from cricket, archery and spa treatments to clay pigeon shooting, horse riding and fishing.

If you are planning your wedding reception and would like to find out more information about this wedding venue contact Drenagh directly on Tel: 028 7772 2649
