Cruise through Italy on your honeymoon - By Amanda Cooper

After your wedding there is no better way than to set sail into your new life as newlyweds, than by cruising in and around one of the most romantic countries in the world, Italy! For those wedding couples that enjoy that delicious glass of wine paired with delectable Italian cuisine, this would make for a wonderful and romantic getaway for your honeymoon.

Many European and Mediterranean cruises include docks at various Italian ports, so it is up to you what you would like for your itinerary to include. If you choose to depart from Italy, one main port is typically used as a departure point for cruise ships and that is the city of Civitavecchia. Otherwise known as the "gateway to Rome", the city of Civitavecchia is a wonderful starting point to your Italian adventure. Newlyweds are able to begin their vacation, even before setting aboard their honeymoon cruise. The port of Civitavecchia is located near Rome, so you are able to see sites such as the Coliseum, the historic Pantheon, and Vatican City! If you can arrive a few days before your cruise departs, you can take full advantage of the sites and sounds of Civitavecchia and its surrounding towns and cities.

Once your cruise ship sets sail from the city of Civitavecchia, you will embark on a phenomenal coastal adventure of this boot-shaped country. Typical Italian ports on most cruise line itineraries include the famous cities of Florence, Pisa, and of course Venice. These main ports offer some of the most historic and stunning sites Italy has to offer. For those art lovers, the city of Florence offers its visitors fine displays of works from both Dante and Michelangelo. Of course while visiting the city of Pisa, be sure not to miss the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. It truly is an amazing piece of architecture! The most famous Italian port of all is Venice! This is a stop that simply must not be missed. The beautiful and amazing city of Venice is comprised of hundreds of bridges and water canals. Why so many bridges and canals? Because Venice is made up of over 120 islands, it is necessary to make each part accessible. For those that wish, you can explore Venice and these numerous waterways by riding in a gondola! Be sure to check out the Grand Canal. From fresh produce to beautiful souvenirs, you will be sure to find something for you and your new spouse to remember this romantic honeymoon. Depending on how long your cruise ship docks at Venice, you may be able to take a side trip to the island of Murano. For over 700 years, hand-blown glass has been created here on the island of Murano. It is even possible to view demonstrations of artisans created beautiful glass masterpieces. You will even be able to select glass-blown treasures to take home with you .

As you can see, a honeymoon cruise with stops along the coastal cities of Italy is a wonderful and romantic way to start off your new lives together! Go ahead and see which cruise line offer the best itineraries and get ready embark on that new adventure together!
