Wedding Ideas - How Trends Have Changed Over the Last 30 Years By Amanda Cooper Many aspects of planning a wedding have changed over the past 30 years.
Traditional aspects of the wedding can still be seen, but the majority of how a wedding used to be is no longer even when it comes down to selecting the wedding favours. Time does change everything, even how weddings are planned. But what doesn't change is the reason why weddings happen, because of two people falling in love.
Who pays for the wedding?
Traditionally the father of the bride paid for the wedding, or at least a majority of it. Slowly the tradition of who pays for the wedding has changed. Since more and more people have begun to work, other people have begun to take a financial part of planning the wedding besides just the father of the bride. Today, many weddings couples like to save for their own wedding and agree on a wedding budget that they can afford. Others save and save so that they are able to have the wedding as extravagant as they would like it to be. Many bride and grooms want the wedding of their dreams, no matter the cost. This can lead to the couple going into debt because of the lavish wedding they want to throw.
Fashion
Over the last 30 years, we have seen drastic changes in what both the bride and groom wear on their wedding day. We've seen brides wear the traditional white wedding gowns for a period of time. Then brides started to wear various shades of white dresses. Finally, brides stepped into wearing coloured wedding dresses. Coloured wedding dresses have become more acceptable over the last thirty years. One reason for this is the colour white traditionally is associated with purity and many of today's couples have already established an intimate relationship with one another before officially saying "I do". Many brides now wear various coloured wedding dresses and simply put, many brides are not afraid of breaking "tradition" and are not afraid of making a statement. Even the groom's fashion has changed over the years. No longer do the grooms wear suits with wide ties, but rather elegant and stylish suits and tuxedos. Slowly, grooms began to accent the colours of the wedding, by colour coordinating their waistcoats, ties and handkerchiefs. You also see more and more grooms accessorizing: wearing top hats, cravats, having tails on their tuxedo, some even use a cane for a fun twist.
Nuptials and Honeymoons
Now brides and groom are able to get married anywhere, not just in the church or courthouse. Backyard weddings with nuptials read by an officiate have made weddings more intimate. We now see couples getting married at the place they met or even having a destination wedding, where all their family and friends fly in to celebrate! The nuptials themselves no longer need to take place in a church to be "official". As far as honeymoons go, many brides and grooms back in the day opted to take their honeymoon within driving range. Over the past thirty years that has changed immensely. Now couples don't just take a few days or just one week, many couples decide they want to continue their new lives together in an exotic location for weeks at a time.
