On Saturday 6th February I attended a family wedding reception in the Ardilaun Hotel. The hotel is a luxury 4 Star Hotel set in a tranquil setting with beautifully landscaped gardens, a superb leisure centre with 18 metre swimming pool and the latest gym technology. Situated close to Galway city centre and Galway Bay, the Ardilaun hotel has over 40 years of experience in providing couples with the perfect wedding venue for that memorable wedding day.
The wedding reception was held in the spectacular Connacht Suite with its plush decor, fabulous chandeliers and gracious high ceilings. The hotel offers wedding couples a choice of two function suites were the Glenarde Suite offers the idyllic setting for smaller intimate weddings.
Having left for Galway on the Saturday morning at 7.30am we arrived in Galway just before noon. The wedding ceremony took place at 2pm in a chapel located close to the hotel.
After the ceremony we went back to the hotel where we served Tea/Coffee & Biscuits, Sparkling Wine and Fruit Punch. Needless to say I sampled the wine and the fruit punch and was pleasantly surprised by the punch. This went down a treat as you can imagine on a cold February day.
For my meal I had Smoked Salmon to start with. I then had the Carrot & Orange Soup with a hint of Ginger. For my main course I had Roast Prime Sirloin of Beef Accompanied by Seasonal Vegetables & Potatoes and for dessert I had Profiteroles served with Vanilla Icecream and Chocolate Sauce. The food and service was second to none and the hotel staff came around on numerous occasions to offer more portions.
One thing I did notice about the hotel was the variation in the standard of accommodation. Having visited three different bedrooms during the course of my stay as we had many family members staying over the standard of bedrooms was quite varied. One of the rooms, which just so happened to be a single room was very dated in comparison to the other rooms. As a paying customer I would not like to be paying the same money as other guests for a bedroom of a much lower standard. If you are planning to stay at this hotel I would request one of the bedrooms on the new end of the hotel as the hotel appears to have underwent recent refurbishment.
For breakfast the next morning I made the mistake of letting my sister go to the breakfast buffet for me so my plate was filled high. Needless to say it was all ate up.
