Family Wedding in Dubronik Old Town, Croatia

Family wedding in Croatia.

Last month I attended a family wedding in the Old town of Dubrovnik.   Having never travelled to Croatia before I didn’t know what to expect, however to my delight I can now say that it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.

On hearing that I was going to a wedding in Dubrovnik many people asked ‘Is the bride or groom from there?’ the answer was ‘No’.  Neither the bride nor groom had ever travelled to Croatia before.  They made a decision to get married there as they wanted their wedding to be different and they liked the idea of being guaranteed good weather.

We arrived on Saturday 5th September and as we stepped of the plane the rain flooded down so it just goes to show there is no guarantee of good weather anywhere.  One of the locals told us this was the first rain they had seen in three months.   We were just grateful that it didn’t rain on the day of the wedding.  The remainder of the week was an average of 27 degrees.

As Dubrovnik was a place that neither the bride nor groom had ever visited they sought the help of a local wedding planner.   Kristina and Paula from Dubrovnik Luxury Weddings helped make the day very special for everyone.  http://www.dubrovnikluxuryweddings.com/.

The wedding ceremony was held in Sponza Palace. It is classified as being one of the most beautiful of buildings and one that actually survived the Great Earthquake of 1667. It is said that Dubrovnik was saved thanks to Sponza Palace remaining intact after the Great Quake and that without this building the whole city would have collapsed.

The wedding reception was then held in the internationally renowned 5 star Excelsior Hotel and Spa.   We enjoyed a drinks reception on the hotel veranda followed by a 5 course meal which was served outdoors.  The food was excellent and was plentiful.

Over the course of the week there were plenty of things to do and see in Dubrovnik.  Unfortunately we did not get the time to do everything we would have liked. We did however manage to go on the Elaphite Islands excursion, visit Medjugorje and walk the Dubrovnik city walls. The walls were built systematically in the difficult times of permanent danger to the City, and they have been preserved to this present day and are still functional.

You can fly direct to Dubrovnik from Belfast International with Jet2.com.

For any couple who is considering on getting married abroad I would have no hesitation in recommending the Old Town of Dubrovnik.  You will have a truely amazing time.
