Glenavon House Hotel Cookstown

by Editor@BookOurWedding 21. April 2009 10:00

On Saturday 18th April 2009 I had the pleasure of attending a wedding reception in the Glenavon House Hotel Cookstown.

It was a fabulous day and the weather was fantastic.  It is probably safe to say it had been the warmest day of 2009 to date.  Here is hoping that there are many more to come.

As I was a guest at the wedding my sole purpose was to celebrate this happy occasion.  I did however make a few mental notes on the hotel itself as brides regularly asked me for my opinion.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Glenavon Hotel they recently completed a £1 million extension to the hotel which has provided a grand lobby complete with crystal chandeliers and marble flooring.  It really is something else.

The hotel can cater for more than one wedding per day, however, it is a very popular wedding venue in the Mid-Ulster area so it is best to book well in advance to ensure you get the date you require.

With its mature grounds and riverside location in conjunction with Drum Manor, Killymoon Castle and Springhill House nearby, there are plenty of options for capturing the special memories of your big day.

The function I attended was held in the Tyrone Suite of the Glenavon hotel which has been newly extended and refurbished to the highest standard and is situated on the left, just as you enter the hotel foyer.  The room was partitioned into two separate areas, one was kept for a drinks reception on arrival and had its own bar and the other was used for the meal and the entertainment.  I guess the set-up of the room depends on the numbers attending your wedding. I believe the room can now seat up to 330 on round tables or 400 using straight tables and the maximum number for the top table is 14 on a raised stage or 16 without the stage.

Just outside the hotels main doors there is a seated area with tables for anyone who wants to enjoy a cocktail or glass of champagne under the sun before the party gets underway.  Thankfully we had the great weather on this occasion.  Within the function room I particularly liked the wooden ceiling and the skylight windows which I felt give the room a nice homely atmosphere. The function suite also had a bar within the room so it meant that guests were not inclined to move away from the party.

The food was plentiful and the staff came around with extra potatoes and vegetables.  The gravy was also served to the table along with the meal.  I know this might be taken as a given, however I am sure you have all experienced an occasion were the gravy is served a little to late.

Unfortunately I did not get to experience the accommodation or the breakfast at the Glenavon Hotel on this occasion; however I hope to do so soon.  On my next visit I hope to make full use of their 20m swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, fitness suite and hair & beauty salon.  After all, everyone deserves a wee treat now and again.
