Italy: Sorrento & the Amalfi Coastline...

by Make It Sorrento 17. April 2009 08:31

When you decide to get married abroad in most cases you have been to the country you have chosen for your special day or in a different scenario the resort is so popular that the decision is easily made even without having been to the country before!

Two resorts which have this kind of effect are with no doubt Sorrento and the Amalfi Coastline.Sun, sites and scenery, not to mention the world famous cuisine and warm, welcoming atmosphere are just some of the reasons I can think of that could explain the great popularity of these lovely Italian resorts.

Having lived in a village close to Sorrento most of my life I hope to give you a little insight on these areas that have been the background to some of the most magical moments I can remember :)

Sorrento can offer just about everything to the discerning traveler. Within easy reach of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius, Naples and the beautiful Island of Capri it is an excellent base for sight seeing.

Sorrento has a unique atmosphere with its old town made up of narrow, cobbled lanes with small workshops where the local artisans ply their trade and the newer part of the town with smart shops, designer label boutiques and, of course, many bars, pizzerias and restaurants to suit every taste and every pocket.

Entertainment in the town is not a problem since, throughout the summer months, there are always concerts and shows taking place plus the many local fiestas which celebrate the various patron saints of the area and offer a great folkloric experience.

You have to experience the dramatically stunning Amalfi Coastline to realize why it is often described as "The most beautiful coastline in the world". Traveling along the winding coastal road you have the Lattari Mountains towering up to approx 3.000 ft. on one side and the emerald green waters of the Bay of Salerno sparkling below...absolutely breathtaking!

You will drive past the charming and well known towns of Positano, Minori, Maiori and the town of Amalfi once a powerful Maritime Republic and today a lovely coastal town characterized by a small port, a riot of different colors and beautiful buildings like the Cathedral of S. Andrew dating back to the 9th century and locally known as "Il Duomo".

It might be interesting to know that non residents can have a religious wedding in both the towns of Positano and Amalfi apart from a civil ceremony.

Well, I could go on and on talking about Sorrento and the Amalfi Coastline but I will leave you the pleasure to discover by yourself what has made these resorts so popular since the Roman times.

Should it be a wedding, a honeymoon or just a holiday I would certainly advise anybody to experience this beautiful area of Italy as it truly is something out of this world!
